Teacher Industry
Exchange
(TIE)

What is the TIE programme?

The Teacher Industry Exchange Programme (TIE) is a Department for Education (DfE) funded programme which forms part of the Government’s £635 million investment to boost construction skills across the country.

Designed to create meaningful partnerships between industry specialists and technical educators which enhance teaching practice and develop a stronger construction workforce.

Construction Workers Collaborating

What are the benefits?

Industry professionals can contribute directly to student learning and collaborate with curriculum leaders on activities such as curriculum co design and lesson planning via this structured, funded programme. Employers receive a financial incentive for releasing staff to participate. This programme provides participants with certified training that supports their own professional development and ability to support the development of others. Taking part in this programme contributes to social value outcomes, which can support a companies’ ability to secure contracts that require demonstration of social value activity. To learn more about social value you can view our Social Value Accountability Framework or speak to a member of team.

Funding & Training

Funding The TIE

We will fund the time of a construction employee coming out of their working day to support teaching and learning within an FE college or training provider, up to the value of £500 per day (a day equates to 4-8 hours).   The financial incentive also covers the time needed to undertake the training.

Training and Induction

For those working in construction to get the best out of this experience, light touch mandatory training will be provided to give you the knowledge and tools needed to feel comfortable and confident with students.  You will be able to access the initial training at your own convenience, however if you require support this can be discussed on an individual basis.  There is no requirement for the construction employee to hold any existing qualifications or certificates to take part in this programme.  Any college specific induction that may be required at the campus/training facility prior to any activity taking place, will be clarified early in the process, before any agreement is made.
